Bill, do you think Jackson Cates has any chance at making the team?

Yes. He's worked his way into the discussion. He was Group A practice yesterday. Tortorella straight out said that, with only a few exceptions that he felt were still somewhat interchangeable, if you were in Group A yesterday you are in the NHL roster mix. If not, you're outside that group.

Specific to J. Cates, he and Tanner Laczynski are battling head to head for the 4C spot. They were both in Group A at center yesterday and both are in the lineup today in Boston.

Players who were not in Group A but are in the lineup today -- likely the guys Tortorella was referring to who still could force their way onto the roster but have to impress from here on out before they get cut: MacEwen, Willman, Brooks. Foerster is also in the lineup today but he's waiver exempt and 20-years-old.

Bill, seems odd Provorov got a maintenance day after a day off. Is he battling injury or illness?

I don't know. He hasn't spoken during camp (to be fair, he hasn't been requested yet). All that was said yesterday was maintenance day. But he plays through everything.

Jackson Cates should play over ND and MacEwen, but we know that is not happening. If no one else beats him out that is a sad state of affairs for the Flyers. He is just a grinder, and I'm so sick and tired of grinders. I know the Flyers mentality will never change. I even tried rooting for other teams that embrace hockey the way it should be played, but it is not the same.

Bill, has Provorov ever played through major injury you’re aware of in his career?

I’d like to see them both have success Then start a Cates for Skates charity that gifts underprivileged kids with skates.

Didn't he play through a separated shoulder against the Penguins in the playoffs?

Had to look him up. Yeah, I can see the resemblance. To me he looks like the guy who stands uncomfortably close to you on line at WaWa.

Can’t remember but wouldn’t be surprised. This is a kid you don’t trade just because he’s not meeting the high standards placed upon him.

I’ve defended Ristolainen my fair share but he got lucky the Bruins took a penalty there. Bad read to go to the shooter, leaving Jake DeBrusk alone at the side of the net.
